A friend of mine recommended Magnum Guide Outfitters in Texas for Rios.  Has anyone hunted with them?  Would you recommend?

They have been around for a good while. I remember seeing ads in the mags for that outfit several years ago, but to answer our question no. If they still have openings this late I would be hesitant, only a week til texas season!

If it's Magnum Guide Service out of Eldorado then depending on time frame Yes. I wouldn't personally wanna go too late in the year but they have so much property to hunt and I know they rotate things well. I'd suggest at least a phone call to see what if anything they have available. I've had a couple great hunts with them.

My son and I hunted with them last year. Great folks with tons of birds. Based on my experience, I would say if you are able to do a mid week hunt with them you shouldn't have a problem booking this year as most of there hunts last year seemed to be scheduled around weekends. We hunted during the week and were the only ones on 22,000 acres. We killed our 4 birds by 1:00 the first day. They are first rate . Worth the trip just to see Jim's game room. Good luck...

We (three of us from GA) booked with Jim (Magnum Guide Service) several years ago and it was a complete failure on his part. He'd promised a small ranch for us that had not been hunted. On our first outing we found no birds and came across feathers here and there where birds had been killed. It had been shot out before we arrived. Also on the hunt were a husband and wife team of "outdoor writers" and Jim catered to them the entire trip not personally speaking to us until the night of the second days hunt after one of his guides mentioned to him that we were not happy. Best I can remember out of  7 hunters only a Longbeard and a Jake were taken. You don't see that picture in the magazine ad. It was a rip off.  We too had seen all the ads in Turkey Hunting magazine with 20 longbeards in the picture and the high success rates but we witnessed none of that. I did not appreciate the way he handled himself on nightly outings although that's his PERSONAL business. All I wanted was my chance at a couple of Gobblers and to get the service we paid for. After the trip I was still boiling about the way he acted and sent him a letter about it. He called and offered me a 140 inch whitetail hunt, free if I didn't kill and full price if I did. Wow what a deal. Anyway, I know guys have some good hunts with that outfit. We did not have that at all with him and I'll try my very best to keep any potential business from him at every chance I get.
We later discovered John Austin with Cochina ranch 100 miles south of San Antonio. Tagged out every trip for years with no issues. Whoever you book with best of luck, hope you all have great seasons.

Thanks for the feedback.  I've never gone on a guided hunt and was simply trying to get some feedback from the members before booking with someone for the 2016 season.  If you have any outfitters you would recommend, even outside of Texas, please feel free to comment.
