Tried patterning my wife's 870 20 gauge today...
The new Truglo SSX ended up throwing the pattern high and to the right with both the Fed HW #7's and the Win. lead #5's at 20 yds. I moved the William's firesights to get the pattern centered but now the windage is pretty far over to the left and I really dont care for it like that...
Is this a common problem when switching chokes (never had this problem with my past shotguns)? I'll have to shot a few next time with the old HS choke to see what that does.
It's actually pretty common for POI to change with different chokes. I'll always clean everything, bore included and reinstall a choke when that occurs and sometimes see different results.
If you have the torque different on the magazine cap, that will also affect where the shot hits. I'd recommend that after you clean everything, you hand tighten the cap, then use some padded pliers and turn it 2-3 more clicks. Mark the cap and the band, red nail polish works well, so that you can see exactly where everything is. Then see where your POI is and go from there.
Thanks,
Clark
