So there is a lot of love I see for the fed heavy 7's (and the Hevi 7's), but not much of the other sizes.  My LGS has the fed hvy 6's but no 7's.  Are they worth the wait/extra effort to get the 7's?
:thanks:Jason

Gobble!

At 15g/cc #6s are overkill. #7s will throw much better patterns and are more than capable of killing turkey's farther than we should be shooting.

One of my personal current interests is nest predators and how a majority of hunters, where legal bait to the extent of chumming coons.  However once they get the predators concentrated they don't control them.

PALongspur

I agree that 7s are the way to go, but if the 6s are all you can get your hands on don't pass them up.

BandedSpur

I'd hold out for the 7s. Be nice if they made them in 8s.

I was at the local sports shop yesterday, and they had 3 boxes of fed #7hw, and one box of mag blends, I think I may get a box of each and try them! Man, with a these different loads, and chokes a fellow can spend a small fortune!

:morning:just wait til you shoot the patterns and kill one with the HWT 7's, then have to go back and stock up

Hi Jason,
If you like LEAD #6's go with Fed HW #7's  Both weigh 0.13 g/cc per pellet.
If you like LEAD #5's go with the Fed HW #6's.  Both weigh 0.17 g/cc per pellet.
If you are like a whole bunch of OLD TIMER Gobbler chasers and swear by LEAD #4's.  Go with Fed HW #5's.  Both weigh 0.21 g/cc.
Lead #5 / Fed #6 are a fine compromise.
With todays chokes and magnum shells.  All pellets sizes will kill a gobbler at normal ranges.  The problem will not be pattern density.

The Federal #6 is gonna be terribly difficult
To get decent patterns. Payload is just too
Thin.
Get the #7. The weight may be same as a #6 lead?
But I strongly disagree that it will kill like
Lead. #6's.
The down range energy is way way way better.
More like a Lead #4's.
The 7's will kill 2X farther than we should discuss
As Ethical Sportsmen.
I have seen it.
Good luck with your purchase.

Here is a good comparison of ballistics (energy and penetration) of different pellets.

http://www.randywakeman.com/TalkingTurkeyAboutPelletPenetration.htm

Lead 5 and Fed HW 7 are pretty close (little better energy with leads, little better penetration with #7s).  Penetration kills as long as energy is close, especially with such a higher pellet count.

Thanks guys.  Appreciate the answers.  I have no problem waiting for the 7's, still have 7 weeks left.  He's ordering them for me anyway.  I also want to get the Hevi 7's to try.  I have an 835 with a SSX, and newly acquired M3500 and Sumtoy.

Thanks for the link g8rvet

Yeah, us vetinery  vetrinariun veturinerian dog docs are smart!

LOL   I did a lot of research on the ballistics cause a 7 size pellet worried me.  I made a patterning board with 1x4 pine across 2x4 pine and my second shot that hit the 1x4 at 40 yards broke it in 2 pieces.  It hits hard.
