How many hunters here use quavers in their Spring hunting? I have had so much success with them that it became my username here. The late Kenny Morgan writes about them in his timeless book- Turkey Hunting- A One Man Game.

You are speaking of the low, bearly audible, slow three note yelp that Morgan describes as being good to use on hung up gobblers?

He mentions them multiple times in the new book as well.  "Quaver" appears many times in the McIlhenny/Jordan book, The Wild Turkey and its Hunting, e.g., "Now give a low quaver Keow keow keow just audible to him yet low then stop right there."   Here is Kenny Morgan doing a quaver on his Frictionwood caller, about 1:45 in.

Awesome video. Thx.

I've never seen that one,  what exactly is the frictionwood  call ? It looks kinda like a scratch box but the video is a little to grainy to see how it's made. I would like to find me one.
Genesis 1:26
Then God said, "Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals,[a] and over all the creatures that move along the ground."

So if I'm seeing it right,  it's basically a thin hollow  box with a slight opening on one side ?

The Frictionwood makes a very realistic quaver; I wouldn't enter the woods without one.  During the last year of his life, Kenny wanted to teach me how to make them.  Had he still lived in Baton Rouge instead of College Station, I would have done so.

Yeah Treerooster---I have a frictionwood as well. Got it in 2000 and signed-K M. I bought Kenny Morgans great -Calling video. Just watched it last week. Yeah- the quavers on the frictionwood  sound the best. 3 short purrs really. I also keep the slit facing away from me and covered. I wish that I was a (tube) man as I also have the Morgan Caller. I never used it. It came with just a beautiful (zebrawood ) case and tight cover and signed also.  Wish now that I had built 2 frictionwood callers. You must be from near Jackson Louisiana- Silvestris.  Going to take the frictionwood out to PA on April 30th---can't wait!

Bout 60 miles now.  Used to drive over a hundred miles morning after morning to hunt "with" Kenny and then drive back home to farm.  Talk about praying for rain so I could stay down there for 3-4 days w/o having to drive back and forth.  Oh, to have those days and him back.
