Well i shot my new gun today, but hope it will shoot better. Its a cva scout 20 gauge turkey gun with 22 inch barrel. Shot at 35 yards with a truglo ssx i got 177 in a 9 inch circle with federal heavyweight #7's. I think i can get better and i want to try some more chokes. Is the extended carlson's choke better than the flush one. They are both .575 const. Has anyone shot the carlson's chokes, is the extended better than the flush?

I don't know about the flush mounting chokes, but have one of the extended tubes for my 870 youth

Not sure how much better you want it, as there are only something like 340 ish (don't remember the exact number) of #7 in the Fed shells. You get it much tighter and you will cut your wiggle room way down.

Tail Feathers

My CVA 20 with the factory choke gets 140 at that same 35 yards.  That SSX sounds pretty sweet.
To my way of thinking, the HW7's in 20 gauge are ideal at 160-170 in the 10" circle at 40 yards.

Sounds like that SSX is probably going to be real close to my ideal at that range.  If you shoot it at 40, please let us know how it does.

I'm leaving mine with the factory choke for a couple of more years.  The grandsons shoot it and I don't want it too tight.  It's a sweet shooting little gun.

My SX3 20 gauge shoots 170 in the 10" circle at 40 yards (HW 7's) using a flush Carlson's .585 choke.  But it's a 26" barrel.
Love to hunt the King of Spring!

I wasn't really meaning more pellet numbers but a more even pattern, my pattern has some blank spots in it
