Winchester Rooster XR out of a 21" 870 Turkey 12 gauge

55 degrees today , so off to the range.
21" 870 turkey with a Hevi-shot choke .662
Winchester Rooster XR  1300 fps. 3" 1 1/2 oz. 5's.   112 in the 10".
                Rooster XR  1300 fps. 2 3/4" 1 1/4 oz. 6's.  136 in the 10". 195 in the 15".

With the Carlsons .660 choke tube.
Winchester Rooster XR  3" 1 1/2 oz. 5's.  131 in the 10".
                Rooster XR 2 3/4" 1 1/4 oz. 6's.   124 in the 10".   203 in the 15"

To add to this the 2 3/4" load had even patterns and recoil was even less than i expected.
Should be a nice load in the 2 3/4" chambered guns.

The 3" 5's

With the Carlson .660   131 in the 10", 199 in the 15" and 238 in the 20".
To the 15" fairly even  , the 20" has twice as many hits on one half .

With the Hevi .662  112 in the 10", 159 in the 15", and 201 in the 20".

Well done. That's exactly what I did in the "Turkey Choke Evaluation Project" with the 32 different configurations I used in 6 different guns. I used 3" WLB shells with 1.75 oz. of #6 shot for that.

Wow!Did you shoot from 40 yards? Those are some impressive patterns. Ive been waiting to see some pattern results on these shells. The 2&3/4" #6s are very impressive considering its only a 1 1/4 oz payload.  Those loads will do some serious damage to a gobbler @1300fps. I havent seen these locally yet but if i do ill have to try em out. How many rounds come in a box and how much $ for a box? I sure hope they come out with longbeards or roosters for 20 ga soon.

Not to jack your thread but I'm thinking of buying some 2.75 Rooster XR's to shoot out of Browning Belgium A5. It don't get out much but with numbers like that I might just do it. My wife takes it when she goes anyway. It has a 29.5in full choke. Which shot size would yall recommend from that she'll in this gun?

Deep cleaned barrel.
The 2 3/4" shell should be the ticket for the A5, M12,58 ,11, 1148 etc. Plenty of 2 3/4" 870 wingmasters and 1100's too. Time to get Grandpa's shotgun back to the woods and fields.
With the 1 1/4 oz load the 6's would be the size most would chose or recommend.
Cabelas and Bass Pro, plus many others have in store and on line i do believe.
15 rnds for about $23 or so.

I'm gonna have to pick some up for my Dad to try. He's been using my Grandads ole wingmaster for the past 2 seasons (since he passed) and shooting plain ole #6 high brass "cause thats what Grandaddy  use to shoot". So far all his birds have been close and all have fallen but that thing shoots loose and its had me a little nervous each time I called him one in. He said if he cant killem with his daddy's gun he'll just quit going so maybe these will up the annie with that old sentimental shot gun. Who knows, maybe Ill drag it out this season too.   Thanks for sharing .

*shot a turkey inside 15 yds last year and it looked like I shot him with a slug. Added a red dot scope this year.

*try the Ventilator .655 with the LB  3" 6's.
