mossberg 535?

Thinking of buying a new 535 and using it strictly for spring birds. Anyone use one of these? I hope to get it to pattern good and just use as a single shot with a red dot on it.

I had the 535 turkey thug that comes with the pistol grip stock and red dot directly from Mossberg. Very nice gun, and I got great results with hevishot #7's and a hevishot brand choke tube. The gun kicked like a mule, but a nice rig for the money.  I sold it to a friend and he loves it. Seem to be more people on OG that favor the 835, but I had no issues with the 535.

I'm gonna get it to play around with, where I hu t it gets thick and rough and really don't Wana be beating up a $1000 gun. Any scope recommendation?

Get an 835 unless you are gonna shoot slugs out of it 835's are well known for throwing some of the best patterns you can find,  and for scope burris fastfire 3 or bushnell trs-25

I've had 3, friends talked me out of 2 of them, I still have one. Great guns, very light, pattern very well. I shoot 3" shells out of them. The one I have now has the short and long barrel combo set.

I've never put a scope or dot sight on any of them, just liked the light weight and good balance of the gun.

P.S. I'd recommend that really clean it before shooting and "deep clean" the bore.

I bought one and had problems right out of the box. The shell stop bar is too long and would not load a shell from the magazine tube into the chamber until I took the bar out and modified it with a dremel tool. Also the fiber optic sights that come on the gun are very cheap. The rear sight moves back and forth not allowing you to have it correctly sighted in. Also the 535 shot a foot high from 25 yards because of these cheap sights. If you are willing to modify this gun right out of the box and spend $60 for an after market set of sights then I would say its worth it.

I had one and hated it. Most vicious kicking gun I ever shot.
Sold it and bought an 835. Much happier now.
One word of advice. If you decide to shoot 3.5 shells out of it, it will remind you how much your shoulder is attached to the rest of your body.
If it were me, and this was a spring bird only gun, get an 835 and put an Fast Fire 2 or 3 on it, and go kill some birds!

I have had one for about 7 years and I like it.  If I had to buy another gun I don't think I would go back to it though.  It definitely kicks like a mule but I have had some good results at the range with it.  Mine has a 20" barrel and it is very easy to carry.  I haven't had any issues cycling shells of any length through it.

I have 3 mossberg dedicated turkey guns. One is a 535 with a ff11, Indian creek choke and the trigger done to 3lbs. It does kick however when sighting in its in LED sled. I never notice it when harvesting a turkey. Also i shoot nitros so they tend to have a lot of recoil. Great turkey gun light and rugged. have taken 12 to 15 turkeys with it. I really like it when i have a lot to carry and ground to cover as its very light.
