45 Colt

I won a Rossi Circuit Judge a couple years ago at my NWTF banquet that's chambered for 410 shot shell and 45LC. I just took it out bunny hunting the other day and had a blast shooting 410. I just bought a box of Winchester 45 Colt 255 grain hollow point but my barrel says 45LC and the shells I bought are 45 Colt...might be a dumb question but is there 45 Colt ammo and 45 LC ammo or is it the same round?

It's properly called the .45 Colt but many refer to as .45 Long Colt. It's the same round. You also have the .45 ACP (Automatic Colt Pistol) that was designed for the 1911.

Right you are. But how did the name Long Colt come about?? Was there ever a Short Colt? Don't recall ever hearing of one. Or was it to distinguish the 45 Colt and the 45ACP rounds??

Hey Mark,

There was at one time another .45 round that was shorter but I believe that today, the .45 Long Colt term is used, as you stated, to distinguish it from the .45 ACP.
