870 or sx3

Just throwing this out there.  I have been using an 870sm 24" barrel forever and its killed many birds.  I got an SX3 28" a few months ago for my waterfowl gun and fell in love with it.  If you were in my shoes would you stick with old reliable or try out the SX3.  I want to try a few different chokes and stuff this year and don't want to put alot of money into a turkey rig im not going to use.  I have never turkey hunted with 28" gun and thats really the reason im leaning towards the 870.  Also if i put a scope on the SX3 I will have to remove it to hunt ducks. 

Also for you guys that have experimented with SX3's what setups seem to work best?

Hey Aaron,

I have a 28" barrelled SX3 and have used it for turkeys many times. As you know, it's very light and easy to carry. I've never found that the 28" barrel gets in the way or is too long. I'd recommend that you give it a try.

As far as patterning goes, the I+ bore is excellent. I'm now 2/3 the way through the "Turkey Choke Evaluation Project" which includes a number or I+ chokes with WLB shells. I've seen some excellent patterns.

I scored targets this afternoon. I need another day at the range and the shooting portion will be complete.

Put you a 675 in that SX3 and let it show out.

Sorry, I just saw your post. Yes, the I+ is Invector Plus, like the SX3 and some models of the BPS use, as well as several other guns.

Browning/Winchester recommends a .640 e.d. choke and I've found that chokes from that size through .670 - .675 all work well, depending upon the internal geometry. Each designer uses what he thinks works best. It's really all about the internals.
