Been taking my 8 yr old every weekend in October here in MO for our fall turkey season hoping to connect on some birds. After being in several birds every weekend but never having it work out for us,saturday was to be our day.Settling into the blind along a new 1/2 acre wheat field where we've been seeing birds every time we've been, the morning started out like the others. Hens started making racket and even had a jake gobble at first light. About 20 mins after sunup birds start pitching into the wheat,25 yds from the blind but to our right where he couldnt get turned to shoot. I started purring and clucking and a couple poults started working our way. I've got him on the shooting sticks and the tru-glo on,ask him if hes ready and take the safety off. With a bird at about 7 yds he says hes on it and I say pull the trigger when youre ready. BOOM! and he takes a step back from the recoil. 2 birds floppin in the wheat!!!! The other 8 birds in the field dont spook and a jake runs over to check out the happenings. With a tag still left I pull up with the little Mossberg mini bantam and make it 3 in the field! What an exciting time,3 birds with 2 shots. To make it even better we get back to my parents house and my little sister and her family are here visiting for the weekend from Indy,so we get to work and chunk up 3 breasts and put them to soakin in lemon pepper marinade. Rolled up in some Andys seasonings and fried up today for lunch. Eating was almost as fun as shootin em! Try to post up some pics later.
