Mossberg 930 or 935

I am considering purchasing a dedicated turkey gun and am interested in the Mossberg 935.  If I understand it, the 935 is over-bored while the 930 is not.  I would have no problem shooting 3" versus 3.5" shells and was wondering would the 935 routinely pattern 3" shells better than the 930 due to the overbore?  I know it also depends on the barrel length, choke, ammo as well, so let's say the 935 turkey model with 22" barrel versus the 930 turkey model with 24" barrel, both with the same shell and same brand choke.

Any suggestions, comments, or helpful advice. thanks in advance

what i like about the 935 is the shorter barrel, pistol grip, safety on the top of the gun, shorter length of pull, and overbored barrel.  i currently use a Browning Gold and it has no problem killing turkeys but it is a bit heavy. looking a smaller, lighter gun with a good pattern

I've got a 935 with the pistol grip and it's not what I consider to be light weight, but it does pattern well. If you plan on sticking with 3" shells (never tried them out of my 935) I doubt you will see a significant jump in numbers from your Browning. I do think you will see a noticeable difference in quality. The Browning is a lot better put together and the barrel quality is better. If you are looking to step up to heavier payloads, that's where you will most likely gain the advantage with the 935.

I would lean to the 935 for the features you listed as desirable.  Plus, the ability to use any shell length is a plus in my mind.  However, since you already have a great gun, I would consider getting a good 20 gauge and get a really lighter handier gun for turkey hunting.  20's have come a long way regarding performance and you probably won't miss anything from the 12.

I own both a 930 and a 935 and have shot both extensively. I'm able to do anything that I need to do with 3" shells and only shoot 3.5" shells for evaluation purposes with new guns or chokes, etc.

The 930 feels better balanced to me and I get no cheek slap with it as I did with my 935 prior to putting a neoprene sleeve on the comb.

Both are good guns. My 930 however has a much better finish on the bore and I've found the quality of that gun to be excellent.

Both are very reliable. I have purposely not cleaned the gas system on either gun and while they both are "sooty" they continue to function without any failures.

I'd have to recommend the 930 over the 935 for fit, finish and general over-all feel but you would not go wrong with either gun.

thanks for the responses guys.  a lot of good things to consider.  i was really interested in a shorter barrel but i have a benelli SBE II with 26" barrel that I am also debating getting a pistol grip stock and making it my dedicated turkey gun.  it is light and would be a cheaper route. guess this is just all part of the fun of making up my mind......
