Well this morning I started hunting PA b/c I have no more tags for NY. At first light I had two birds gobbling on the back side of a hay field down in a wooded ravine. After calling to them for about 45 mins it was obvious that they weren't going to move. I decided to close the gap some and made it to 60 yards before I seen them strutting on an old logging road. No problem so I just got sat down and started calling. Everything was going good until all the sudden BANG... Scared the hell rite out of me. Turns out that it was the landowners nephew who seen the action and decided to shoot from about 70 yards away.. I just shook my head as he said "sorry about that".

What an idiot. Instead of doing his own calling and not stalking someone else's setup ( which is not the safest thing to do and is illegal in PA), he decided to bushwhack mine. Oh well what can I do. I will just back this week in the morning when hopefully he is at work and kill one. I should add that they were pretty nice birds as well. Just a bummer......

Had that happen once, it sucks. Unfortunately, people are always looking for the easy way out.

Good Ole PA, had that happen many times over the years. Not sure what hunters do not understand as it's in writing "By Calling Only" ? That's the problem with every licensed hunter in PA, they get a tag with the license, and have no idea or intention of really turkey hunting. Many of these idiots wouldn't even go if they had to purchase it seperately.

Sounds like PA.
I've never seen such insanity.... Until I went there last year and dealt with multiple instances of trespassing and poaching all in one day.

It was the most lawless, common, disrespectful group of hunters I've ever come in contact with. I dread going back to scratch it off the list for my national slam.

Yeah, I'd have to agree. I've been hunting here in PA since I was 12 years old. I've seen some crazy things done by some idiots. A lot of dangerous things and unethical things. I've been fortunate enough to have been taught correctly. It's almost like I've been rewarded because of about 10 years ago I've had permission to hunt some prime private ground that is very secluded and patrolled regularly for trespassers. You wouldn't catch me hunting a game lands near me ever. Now I will add that if you go north near cooks Forrest & allegheny national Forrest and hike a few miles in, you'll have the best public hunting ground in pa to hunt without any company. Be careful out there in pa hunting those crowded game lands.

Pa sounds a lot like Mass and Nh. Tresspassing poaching..cutting you off...The lack of ethics is awful these days.

Hope you get back to hunt that bird when no one else is there to screw up your hunt. I moved from PA in 1977 where I was born to get away from situations like you describe. I've never regretted my decision.
If I had a dollar for every gobbler I thought I fooled I'd be well off!

Hunt during the week if you can.  It is a lot different!   Especially after the 1st week.
