Opinions on double barrel point of impact

I have been looking at the CZ Bobwhite. Unsure of whether it would shoot close enough, I called CZ to find out about their tolerance and warranty repair. The CZ rep., Neil I think it was, said they expect it to center the pattern 50/50 high/low at 25 to 30 yards with the full choke screwed in. First, I think that's too far to get a good look at point of impact. It seems testing that far leaves some room for interpretation in CZ's favor. Also, with it being side x side there should be some room for windage error at that distance. I would try it for wingshooting, but I'm on the fence with regard to using it for turkey.

I would pattern each barrel separate and then compare patterns at 30 or 40 yards.  Set a target at 12 yards with a 1" square in the center.  Shoot 1 barrel with 2 3/4" shells and adjust as necessary to shoot out the 1" square.  Once you shoot out the square set up a 36" x 36" target with a 1" square in the middle at 30 or 40 yards, shoot and adjust using your turkey loads to center your patter over the 1" square.  When you finish the first barrel pattern the second and compare patterns, you should have a good Idea of what the gun will do.  Shooting the gun at 12 yards will give you a real good idea of POA to POI.  Shooting at 30 or 40 yards will give you an idea of the maximum range.

That's a pretty piece of hardware for sure! In my  limited experience with sxs, I've seen them shoot both barrels pretty close, and I've seen them shoot a foot apart. These guns were older savages and stevens though. I've read a ton of good reviews on the Cz's  on shotgun world.com in the "I love my Huglu" section, might get some good info on how they been patterning on there. I think Sumtoy has worked on a few of the Cz's too, might want to give him a call or shoot a p.m.

Have never had the desire to buy a double first and then see if it shoots true....

I would love to try a camo Browning double for turkeys, but I just can't make myself do it....

I found my CZ ringneck to be pretty good at 30yrds, but its a 20ga and its my rabbit gun so I did not get real picky about it.

I pasted this on shotgunworld, too. I wouldn't want to gamble on a Browning, either. That not having a warranty and being at the mercy of whatever their people think that day is a deal killer.

I have a Fox SxS that I've had for years. I had a lot of custom work done on it , chambers lengthened to 3", forcing cones lengthened, backbored, professionally polished bores, barrels cut and threaded, fitted for sling swivels, etc. It has 2 triggers, so I can select what barrel I want to shoot very quickly. I've killed a number of birds with it over they years but haven't taken it to the field in quite some time.

It is well regulated and I've never had a problem at distances greater than 20 yards. It's a handy gun and with a sling on it is very easy to carry all day.

When I had all that work done, my idea was to have a short and long range gun, open choke in one barrel and a tighter choke in the other barrel. I set it up that way for the first few years but never needed the open choke, so just put 2 Wright's .650s in it and that worked just fine.

I still like the gun because it fits me so well but with the other choices of guns today, i may never choose it as a primary turkey gun again.
