im just curious to everyones favorite wood combinations for a box call. what lid and box type wood do you think makes the best sounding yelp in general to yourself personally.

I feel you can't beat a walnut box with a purpleheart lid although butternut box with walnut lid is not too far off.

Oh man, there's so many great combos... Bloodwood over BNut, Limba, or Poplar... Maple over BNut... Canarywood over BNut or Poplar... I could go on and on... Kwila over Limba or BNut... Walnut over BNut or Poplar

One of my personal current interests is nest predators and how a majority of hunters, where legal bait to the extent of chumming coons.  However once they get the predators concentrated they don't control them.

let me ask this. does anyone have a walnut over holly and if so how do you like that combo?

I got a snake wood over Holly and I like it a lot

  I've got a walnut/holly made by Albert Paul.  It is one fine call. The call has a RICH clear yelp. It has that holly sound. You want go wrong with one.

No walnut over holly.  But I have a canarywood/holly and kwila/holly and really like em both.  Also had a snakewood/holly that I sold to Rickey that was a real good sounding call.
