Mossberg 535 Tactical turkey Question

Hi Guys

I have a quick question. I've looked over the forum and could find a clear answer.

I recently purchased a Mossberg 535 Tactical turkey with the 20inch barrel. It came with the XX-Full .670 Accu-Choke.

I was wondering what is a good shell that will pattern reasonably well with this choke as I don't really want to buy an after market choke.

I was thinking the new Longbeard?

Anyone has this setup?

I know every gun patterns differently but if I could get some recommendations I would appreicate it

:)

I have a 535 but I have never shot it with factory choke , mine likes Indian creek choke , longbeards should pattern good with factory choke

3" Lonbeards #5 patterned great(168 in 10") out of my 500 with same exact choke at 40 yards. :icon_thumright:

Now I have to find those shells in Canada

I've done well with mine shooting the Winchester High Velosity 3 1/2" #5.
I have the Kick's Gobblin Thunder .665 though.

Doesn't seem like lots of ppl are using factory choke

Jelly Head .660 is a good choke in that gun.

My 535 Tactical Turkey has been a huge learning experience in my nearly 4 years of owning it.

First, dont expect much from the factory equipped .670" X factor choke.     I tried more loads than I care to count through that choke with below average to poor results.      With the factory choke, my 535 was a 30 yard gun.

Second, save yourself the headache and expense of buying several different aftermarket chokes, and testing them with various turkey loads.     Just buy an Indian Creek, Gobblin Thunder or Jelly Head choke in the .660-.665 range and call it good.    Your wallet and shoulder will thank you.

Third, and finally... dont think you need the biggest, baddest turkey load known to man.      Just because you can shoot a 3.5" shell with a 2.25 oz payload doesnt mean it will pattern worth a handfull of warm spit.     Sometimes a 3" shell with a lighter payload at a more modest velocity will yield a denser pattern.

I know they're a bit more expensive, but Ive found the hevi 3-2-7 loads are killer out of my 535 TT.     I now have a solid 40 yard Turkey gun.     Those #7 havi pellets form a tight pattern and simply crush a gobblers head.

I've had 3 of those guns and still have 1 with the 24" and 28" barrels. The bottom line is that the only choke that I've seen to work well with that gun, and that applies to several scores of my readers, is the SSX with a .643 e.d. That applies to lead or Hevi-13 shells with #6 or #7 shot. That short barrel just requires a tight choke to pattern well.

Thanks,
Clark

X factor choke shoots good out of my 535 TT. I use the silver box winchester 3 - 1 7/8 - #6 and get 110 10" @ 40 yds. But that is plenty tight for me as most of my shots are 20yds and closer. I like a little more open pattern at 40 than alot of other guys.

I had 2 535s, sold one still have one and can't seem to let it go. Shooting Indian creek chokes in both. Will do 150s at 50 yards in a 12 inch circle. Shooting h521 nitros. Once sighted in I always check 50 yards because that's whats at the gun range. I also have 935 and 835 shooting Indian creek, jellyhead and ssx. They shoot great but will not out shoot the 535...now that's my guns. I just keep trying to find the majic conbo and just cant find it...maybe I already have it with the 535...I have a extra ic choke for 535 Pm me if you want.
Thanks, RP

I have the 535 tactical turkey gun also and did a lot of patterning in it with several of the top notch chokes but the accu choke that came with it and the 3 1/2 #4 shot produced a deadly pattern
