Wal Mart Theft Prevention is a Joke

Apparently our local Wal Mart theft prevention sucks. The local news reported a story this evening with security video of a guy spending ONE HOUR removing the lock from the gun case this weekend and stealing a Smith and Wesson MP22. Then he hid it on a shelf, left the store, came back later and they had more footage of him hiding it under his clothes and leaving the store. Then more footage of him getting in his car and leaving.

What a joke.
A man fires a rifle for many years, and he goes to war. And afterward he turns the rifle in at the armory, and he believes he's finished with the rifle. But no matter what else he might do with his hands, love a woman, build a house, change his son's diaper; his hands remember the rifle.

Doesn't surprise me. I've got a friend who works for a city PD that has a Walmart, who pays them OT to walk around the store in uniform on their days off to catch shoplifters, and when they do if it's under $50 they refuse to prosecute, go figure.

I'm not shocked that security is a joke, but I am a little surprised he was able to spend that long breaking in without being seen

That's what happens when you hire people with IQ's (not saying all employee's but probably the majority of them) that scrape the bottom of the barell and don't get paid squat when they think they should get paid more. Here is 2 examples: At our Walmart, my wife & I had a girl cashing us out and 2 different items were not registering when she scanned them so instead of calling over a manager, she said "if it don't scan then its free" and placed it in our bags. We didn't know what to say but I told my wife when we walked out the store to get ready to be stopped for shoplifting (which didn't happen).
Also at the same Walmart, we have a friend who's wife told the cashier that she had a vacuum cleaner under her cart while she was placing her groceries on the belt. He said OK and at the end when she was driving home noticed that he never scanned the item. Big item to miss...
I hate that store and try to do the smallest amount of shopping there....

A guy was apprehended actually at one of our local walmarts. He had completely filled 2 garbage cans with products he wanted and took them through checkout as if he was just buying 2 garbage cans. The check out person was either dumb, in on it or both. Luckily security noticed something before he left the scene.

I've heard the number before in regards to how much Walmart loses in shoplifting and it's astronomical.

On a side note, I went to buy baby formula at Walgreens last week and it was in one of those locked cases. I asked them to unlock it and while doing so inquired as to why it was locked. Employee told me someone stole $800 worth 2 weeks prior. Just not sure how that happens wo being held up.

Man Our Wally World has like a total security detail...My cousin who used to be in management there said they prosecute over any theft regardless of amount even as small as a candy bar.  I do know they have "secret shoppers" on staff.

One of my personal current interests is nest predators and how a majority of hunters, where legal bait to the extent of chumming coons.  However once they get the predators concentrated they don't control them.

Wally seems to have a hard time finding the right balance, it is too big and unmanageable, and perhaps is suffering from a dearth of talent because it does not pay well at the store level.

Wally was lit up in the late 90's and early 2000's in jury trials for over aggressive interdiction.  They also had this amazing coincidence of surveillance video disappearing over being over-recorded in instances where they made stops/arrests and the people had nothing.  There was a group of witnesses traveling around the country testifying about false imprisonment and then the video miraculously disappearing.

Big verdicts and insurance company underwriting standards will change behavior.

CASH....your right its sad!   But you have to remember this....and I've learned this after working with and arresting criminals all my working life.    As a criminal that's all they think about....how there going to make there next score, how there going to steal there next thing, how there going to rob or murder there next victim.  That's all they think about and it puts them at an advantage.   Its sad but true!  We see some that fail miserably at there attempt to break the law but a lot or good at it.   Just like the crazy push to take guns you can....but people that are not going to obey the law will always find a way with or without a gun....That's why in all my days in court, jail, and prison I've never seen a gun locked in a cell or in cuffs.   Its also the scary fact that they have an upper hand on us and all law enforcement and we have to always fight back against it.   Its hard to fight back or stop something you don't know is coming but in the criminals mind for the most part they have it all planed out ahead of time....and we have to jump in at a moments notice and try and stop it.   Its sad but true.  I despise a thief plan and simple!

I got a few good ones to tell , the ones about walmart I can't disclose

But everyone knows I am a ups driver , and my route is a high end shopping mall- I know all the loss prevention folks real good - you couldn't imagine the bs that goes on - it's crazy , people cutting through roofs in the middle of the night , snatch and grabs on $40,000 rolexes and getting away with it - it's crazy the stuff they pull

One item stollen over $300 and you now have a felony arrest record , and most likely a conviction. After that you might as well relocate to Canada cause not even mcdonalds will hire you after a grand theft arrest -- sad part is I see some stupid kids doing dumb stuff , kids can be foolish .....you love em' you preach to them , and still I see kids getting arrested for stealing the most ridiculous things

It's crazy some of the things people in this world do. I work at a retail store and 90% of the time the people who get caught have the money on them to buy it.
Why shoot a 3.5"? Because they don't make a 4".

Sadly, it is a game with many people and is probably the same mentality that poachers have. Have any of you ever heard of a poacher that really NEEDED the game they poached? Of course not, they do it because it gives them some type of thrill to do something illegal and get away with it. Worst guy I ever knew that was a known poacher was a high steel worker.

people steal stuff just to steal.  I work there, a couple years a ago a 18 year stole a "Chevy" key chain.  We called his parents because he said he was under 18, his mom was furious- his dad just bought him a brand new Monte Carlo!  So he stole a $2 key chain- you cant fix stupid!  Then other times we have college kids stealing food because they are broke, that kind of stinks.  Especially when they have a job interview the next day with us.
