Upset hens

I've heard it several times on this forum where hunters have upset hens to get them wound up enough that they'll drag a tom to the hunter.  What are some recommendations for upsetting hens?

X's2.  If a gobbler has hens and the hens aren't talking then what?  Find another bird or come back later?  What are some proven tactics Guys?

It's effectiveness on Eastern Wild turkeys to me is like an urban legend....meaning that it can work but more often it won't work.

I try and look at calling tricks as eggs in a basket....Am I ready to use all my eggs in one meal or do I save a few for later ?

I agree, seems more often than not when i get overly aggressive and start cutting the real hens off or calling on top of their calling they take the gobbler the other way.  Its worked a few times though.  Seem too have better luck answering them then cutting them off.

I have had a lot of luck with calling in hen/hens that have brought along old tommy boy. The best luck I have had is not getting aggressive with my calling but just letting them know that I'm there. I think more times then not just like calling in a tom less is more.

I'll agree with the above comments...It works, and I've done it...Sometimes but more often than not it don't.

That said I'm sure I'll try it again but it's just another trick in the bag and nothing is sure fire when calling turkeys.

IF I know that hens have my gobbler with them AND I hear one that is clearly louder than the rest AND she starts answering me back THEN I pour the coals to her and start mocking her and imitating her note for note with just a little more smart a$$ attitude than what she just gave me. I don't want her to think I'm after her man, but instead I want her to think that I am ready to throw down with her.

This has worked enough times for me that it has definitely become a trick in my toolbox to use at the right time.

 I have good luck matching her note for note and tone. Like everything else it doesn't always work but it's worth a try

I have had it work quite a few times. I duplicate their calls and I always cut them off and get the last word.

This! You have to be able to "read" the bird you are calling to, whether it's a tom or boss hen.

+1  on Full choke's post as well.  It works sometimes.  I've had the best luck repeating back to the hen just what she's giving me and starting in as soon as I think she's done.  It's worth a try.

Nothing works every time, almost anything can work one time, sometimes nothing works, and sometimes doing nothing works.
