Georgia Youth Season

I know this is new for this year. As the rules read, it looks like a kid could take 3 gobblers that weekend. Is that right?

Season Limit: 3 Gobblers.

SPECIAL OPPORTUNITY SEASON

Mar. 15-16, 2014

Only for youth 16 years of age and younger and mobility impaired persons (i.e. confined to wheelchair, hemiplegia, monoplegia, paraplegia, or single-leg amputation above the knee). Such hunters must be accompanied by an adult (18 years or older) who may call but may not take or attempt to take a turkey. This season does not apply to public lands unless otherwise indicated.

Seems so. . . . we as adults can whack all 3 of ours on opening morning if we'd like so makes sense to me.

As usual Georgia regs are not clear, It says 3 per season and they call this a special season, so it could be read as a youth can take 3 during the youth season and then take 3 more during the regular season  for a total of 6. but i would stick to 3 total. good luck to the youth hunters this year

When I first read that a few months ago a coworker and I had a similar discussion. At first I thought it meant that the youth, 16 and under, also had to be mobility impaired. He has since convinced me the special season is for youth and those that are mobility impaired.

I've hunted Georgia the past few years and am excited for the youth season this year as I normally hunt with my 12 year old cousin anyways. Hopefully we have the woods to ourselves and we can get it done quick and I can return a few weeks later.

But why do they keep public lands off limits? Makes no sense.

Makes absolutely zero sense. If you are trying to increase opportunity for the youth and disabled then why would you limit opportunity for those in that demographic that don't have access to private ground?

Makes perfect sense to me.

Its a brand new Youth Season the weekend before regular season. Only on private land. If a kid can shoot three then he can shoot three.
