Will the wood the pot is made from change the tone of the call I made some from cherry maple Osage orange cedar and all sound  Nearly the same but the one's I made from walnut butternut oak and hickory sound mellow or a lower tone but are  made them all the same

Sure it does. Density is very important, if you use a soft wood, it will absorb some of the resonation, unless you coat the inside with CA Glue or some kind of finish to prevent it from doing so. I use Osage a lot, one of the best woods for me and my style of pot call to use. If you want crisp sounding calls use hardwoods. Tight grain ... good sound ... wide grain mellow sound.
