opinion on mount for 1187 20 gauge

is there a preference for B-square or aimtech? or is ther another? I would rather go that route than to tap and drill right now. Does the standatd mount work for both 12 and 20 gauge? Thanks

I would say either one will be as good as the other, and they are gauge specific

just dropd mine off at the gunsmith for drill and tap....
ISSUE....THE RECEIVER is very thin in the front, so he is going to pin the barrel and tap thru the top of the barrel too with the front screws...
back two srews are no problem, plenty of metal to drill into as per my gunsmith...no issue for me as this is my new turkey rig only anyway...
doubt i will be needn to take totally apart....
good luck in your decision....russ

I called a gunsmith and he said the same thing. I wanted to put a scope on mine and he told me the
11-87 20 gauge was too thin also. I would love to put a FF III on it for next season. I would thing since the FF is so light it wouldn't stress the gun as much as a scope. I have tried the B-Square on my 11-87 12 gauge before I had it drilled and tapped. It worked ok and I had no issues. I much prefer drilling and tapping if possible.

my guy said that he would end up putn 5 holes in it total and that i would be good to go...only issue would be if i wantd to take it apart, would be little time consuming in that i would have to unscrew the front
three screws to remove the barrel and i told him that i would not really ever have to take it apart,as its only for turkey, as far as i know ?? so i told him have at it..
good luck russ

Brownells carries a mount called DA-MAR that has six holes in it that just might do the trick. It does cost a bit more but it looks like it would work out.

My gunsmith usually uses a weaver winchester 61(62?)base that has the holes to the rear of the base to avoid the thin part at the front of the reciever.Just look for a mount that has the holes to the rear and you wont have to mess with drilling through the thin part and pinning barrels.

Pogo I have the Aimtech on my 11-87 12 gauge and it has been awesome. I had a guy tell me that it may shift around because it does have room underneath to shoot off the bead but i have ran a lot of rounds through it and not had it falter the first time. But id imagine that the b-square is the same mount.
