Food plot help!

Hey y'all I have a few spots that I want to put half acre food plots for deer this fall and have a quick question about seed and fertilizer. First of all I do not have access to a tractor. That being said what experiences and opinions do you have with the evolved harvest "throw and grows" such as the throw and grow or the Lee and Tiffany varieties (Rack Radish Crush, Clover Crush, Sugar Beet Crush). Also if I am to proceed how do you recommend I plant, as in techniques and fertilizers to use. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Your first step should always be a soil sample. Your local co op extension off ice can help you with that.They can also make recommendations on what will grow well in your area.I buy my seed from the local feed store and stay away from the overpriced seeds that throw around the names of celebrity hunters. That don't grow any better than the plain brown wrapper types.

Get a soil test, you live in Alabama you got clover in your yard, put your grass catcher on the mower and fill it up with clover seed. mow your neighbors yard and get more. don't buy that celebrity seed, they did not hit it with a magic wand, go to the feed and seed store and buy it. you can rent a mid size tractor for the weekend fairly cheep. try to work your soil about 2 to 3 days after a good rain it won't be so hard. put some 3'ft diameter wire cages out to see how the deer are using the plots. don't forget the turkeys, good luck.

i have used the throw and grow along the creek where I cant get the tractor into, I used a rake to ruff the soil up and it did right well tho costly. I always plant turnips in part of our food plots but its needs a frost before they hit it hard. we use a wheat,rye, rape, and clover mix in most of our plots. also do a couple in milo for the birds. I think I have has much fun with the trail cams as I do hunting. have fun and don't take on to much at once good luck
