Great Hunt With My Sister

This past spring I was blessed to spend an awesome morning in the turkey woods with my little sister. She killed her first bird last spring and was ready to go this season as soon as I asked her. I located a small flock of birds right behind my house and I was able to roost them one evening and the next morning we were on them.

They were living in a very open area so I knew we would have to be setup early. That morning I packed my Rhino blind in with us and we were setup 45 min before the first crack of daylight. Once it started getting light we could see the turkeys roosted right in front of us no more than 100 yards. The flock consisted of 2 gobblers and 7 hens. The birds pitched out in the field with us and after about 15 min the hens started our way. I had a DSD Jake and a zinc hen in the breeding position and once the toms got to about 60 yards they came on a dead sprint and whipped my jake and tried their best to have their way with the hen. My sister shot her bird right off the hens back and then I shot mine right off the top of the jake.

I said I would never sit in a blind and hunt turkeys but I will for sure use my blind again. My sister was free to move around, and it enabled her to use shooting sticks which helped her make a great shot on a close bird. Also, it was awesome getting to be so close to birds and them not have a clue we were around. This will always be one of my favorite hunts, it worked out perfect.
