She spent hours and hours worrying about our safety, she attended every boo-boo like it was a life threatening situation and sealed it with a kiss, she saw us as doctor's or lawyers instead of cowboys or astronauts, and through it all she gave up so much to make sure we had enough to make it through our childhood....MOTHER.
Just how important is she? Well....God thought she was important enough to have given birth to out Savior, His only begotten Son, Jesus.....He could have just thought Jesus into existence here in the form of a man, but He chose to honor motherhood.
Matthews 1:18-21... Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost. Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a public example, was minded to put her away privily. But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus: for he shall save his people from their sins.
How many times Mary must have wondered, why God chose her? I would imagine the same thought has entered the minds and hearts of all mothers, why God chose them to be the starting point of their children....the enormous responsibility, how could they possibly meet the all time consuming tasks of raising their children, to acquire such a wonderful gift from God, to be blessed in such a way, to be honored......and respected by their peers.
Mothers begin their journey in pain, as she experiences the laboring tasks of giving birth, but once the child is born, all things are focused no longer on her, but she directs every once of her being to the child. As she holds her baby for the first time, she sees the future, not through eyes of suffering, but through the eyes of LOVE.....Love is patient. Love is kind. It does not envy. It does not boast. It is not proud. It is not rude. It is not self-seeking. It is not easily angered. It keeps no record of wrong doing. It does not delight in evil, but rejoices in the truth. It always protects, trusts, hopes, perseveres. Corinthians 13
I have preached many sermons over the many years, next to Salvation, sermons on motherhood touch my heart in a dear place, the special love God gives them, the strength He has shared with them, the patience and never ending source of tears they have shown and shed, just proves to me, that the plan of God would not have been completed without our dear mothers. The prayers they send up on behalf of their children, surely have the bells of heaven ringing for all eternity. God Bless our mothers on this day and every day until the end of time....
