Hey guys, Got a bit of a dilema.
I need a good pattern that works well out of a Remington 870 express 12 gauge 3" undertaker XT HD ported choke
As well as a Remigton 870 Express junior 20 gauge 3" Undertaker choke

Im looking for solid patterns that have worked in these guns. I shot remginton Premier Hevi Shot 3" #4 and #6 through the 12 gaugr and got pretty limited patterns at 40 yds..

thanks in advance

Get rid of the Undertakers and get you some Jellyhead .660's and Hevi #7's. :OGturkeyhead:

Should of mentioned, im a canadian hunter from Ontario. no #7's aloud. I have read up on the jelly heads but not many reviews with an 870 express...

We'll try to be of help to you but perhaps a bit more information would help us help you. Are you intending to shoot Remington Hevi-Shot in your 12 gauge? If so which load are you using, 1 5/8 or 1 1/2 oz.?

What shells are you intending to shoot in the 20 gauge? Will those be RHS shells as well?

I'm sure you already know that #6 shot will pattern better than larger sizes. I understand that #6 is the smallest that you can shoot but if it's RHS or some other tungsten-based shot, that's really all you need.

I do not know what lead shells are available to you but there are some that will do a good job, properly choked, through your 12 gauge out to 40 yards.  Since your 20 gauge loads normally have lower shot payloads, you'll want to pattern those shells to see just how far they hold together to give you a dense enough pattern to be reliable.

There are some other chokes that may give you better patterns but before making a recommendation, it would be good to know what shells are available to you.

Lastly, I would recommend that you "deep clean" the bores on both of your guns. It really helps regardless of choke or ammo used. If you're not familiar with that process, you can click on the allaboutshooting banner below this post and go to the article "Cleaning a Shotgun Barrel" for the guidelines.

Thanks,

I would have to concur on getting rid of the undertakers. There are a number of chokes out there that aren't super expensive that can produce excellent results. My experience with undertaker chokes was less than satisfactory.

#5
Pure gold, Indian creek, or jelly head in .670, .665, .660 in order of chokes listed and Hevi 13 # 6 if you can't use #7 and you should be good to go in the 12 bore  In the 20 I would get a .570jellyhead  a .565 kicks or a .550 ssx  and Hevi 13 6 and let her eat .

thanks for the reply fellas. I have 3 boxes of the RHS and would shoot them if i can find a proper set up. very hard ammo to find as it was discontinued a couple years back. up my way the majority of the ammo that can be found is Winchesters (bunch of different kinds), Federal premium, Kent, hornady etc. basically the same stuff you guys have just not much of the hevi shot to be found or federal heavy weight which i hear is strong too

TauntoHawk

jellyhead, IC, or Sumtoy with some #6 Hevi
