Hi everyone, just joined here and ready to start learning about killing some big birds. I just bought my son a new Remington 11-87 Sportsman from Scheels the other day and want to get it ready for killing turkeys. 2 questions:

What's a good choke/ammo combo? The wife would kill me if I just started buying boxes and chokes to experiment with.

What's a good scope/sight? I thought like a red dot type of scope but honestly not sure how to mount it.

Thanks for any tips, I started hunting a few years ago but with a bow so I'm still really learning. THANKS

My son has the same gun and he`s shooting a pure gold 570 with hevi shot 7`s

You can use a B-Square saddle mount and put a scope or red dot on it

Or, fiber optics that attach to the rib.   :camohat:

I thought about that but since he's only 7 I wondered if a red dot/scope would be more accurate for him.

PS Thanks for all the replies so far.

I decided after doing a little digging here that I'm gonna start off with a Hevi 13 choke for my xtrema 2 (12 gauge).

Was wondering about getting the same choke for him to keep it more "simple" if there's such a thing?

Thanks again everyone.
