Robin, I had the same condition a few years ago, first in one foot, then about a year later, in the other. My podiatrist put me on 500 milligrams of sodium naproxen (generic for Aleve) twice a day for 30 days. I already used orthotic inserts due to an old ankle injury, so nothing to do there. I don't know if it was the naproxen or not, but mine resolved itself, and hasn't flared up since.
Also, he recommended something I did a few times, but not every day. Take a 20oz plastic pop bottle and freeze it with water. While you setting in a chair, roll the bottle back and forth under the arch of your foot. He told me the more you can do this, the better, as the cold helps keep down the inflammation. Good luck.
