Guys, I was wondering what kind of calls you prefer to use to make gobbler yelps.  Also, have you had much success in the spring using gobbler yelps?

I like a pot call, and yes it has been effective.

Mouth call and box call.   Because of my narrow palate, I have to use a mouth call youth frame for the hen calls.  But for gobbler yelps I can use a triple reed regular frame and get 2-3 decent yelps.  Not much volume, but it works.  With a box call, I can get a deeper and louder yelp at the beginning of the paddle stroke.  Takes some practice, but lighter pressure on the paddle produces the right sound.

I've had good success using a pot call as well.

I use a pot call and move more to the center of the call to get the deeper, coarser yelps.

Roger Parks makes a slate call called his gobbler call and it does excellent gobbler yelps and gobbler clucks.  Scoot

That has got to be the most versatile pot call I've ever played! Perfect gobbler yelps all the way to super kee-kees! Truely an amazing call!  :you_rock:
