I have never attended the National convention but am strongly thinking of going next year.  I would sure appreciate any advise about where to stay and how early I need to book my hote.
Thanks, Heath

I would book at least 3 months in advance.  I would just do a search for lodging around nashville.  Most sites with multiple lodging availabilities will have a map.  Try to find something close to the Opryland hotel.  We parked in the mall parking lot behind the Opryland and saved the valet and parking fees associated with the Opryland hotel.

Wendell is spot on. The cost of staying in the Gaylord and what they had to offer for the big bucks was way off base. Even though the convenience of not leaving the hotel to go to sleep was cool, paying everyone who helped us was getting a little ridiculous, ended up spending 300.00 for one night. Booking in advance will definitely save you cash, but do it at least 3 to 5 months in advance. Valet parking cost me 26.00 a day, and we had a 45 minute wait to get parked and 30 minute wait to get our truck......but if you go, and you will , you are going to see the most fabulous and exciting turkey related convention and gathering of the most call makers you'll ever get the chance to see in your life time. I would tell you BOOK...BOOK...BOOK....and wait with enthusiasm...pappy

dang Wendell, hate that I missed you there, we stayed at the GuestHouse Inn, cost me $309 for 3 nights tax and all, they have a shuttle that runs at the middle of every hour to the Gaylord, drops you off right close to the exhibit hall, and stops running at 1030 pm, it is only 3/4 of a mile, but i rode the shuttle, paid the $5 fee the last morning to park in one of the NWTF parking lots at the Gaylord and caught the bus shuttle from there to the same drop off, think I got it down, I did pay a $20 fee to park the first day when we picked up or registration packs, couldn't find the right parking lot, and did notice lots of people parking at the mall parking lots, would love to stay at the Gaylord for the convienence, but I might have it figured out now, just book early as said
It's not a passion, It's an OBSESSION
