  :hello99:

I hope I'm posting this in the right section. My question is for the wing bone and trumpet sharpies. I have made a few wing bones over the years. There nutting special as far as some of the art work you quality craftsman display. There just a couple of different lengths for different tones and deflection. I am definitely not a champion wing bone caller. However, sometimes I'm effective....  ;D
My question is are lip stops necessary? I've never had one on any of my bones. Will it help me do anything better as far as my calling ?

Thank You

Try it and see, that's really the only way to know if it's going to do anything for you. I have lip stops on most of my trumpets but not on any of my wing bones. For me it's mostly the aesthetics, I think the stops help balance the overall appearance of the trumpets, but the bones look better to me without. In my opinion the lip stops are a little more functional on the trumpets also, I don't ever have any trouble maintaining positioning with the larger/flatter mouthpiece on a wing bone, but I find I sometimes lose track of the narrow, perfectly round trumpet mouthpieces when they are on my lip.

Not everyone needs a lip stop but for me it's something I can't do without as it helps me with consistant placement of my lips on the call. I don't want to second guess when working a bird and besides I do like the look of them on trumpets and bones. I think cork looks real nice on bone mouth pieces.

Agree with the try it and see,
Callmakerman : is that a tea stain on those bones?

Consistancy is the purpose of the lipstop. If it doesn't make a difference, try putting one on and move it up and down in 1/16 increments.
