I've just recently bought a Remington 870 sps super mag turkey/predator 12 ga. shotgun. It's the one with the 20 inch barrel. I was wondering if someone has tried a few choke and turkey load combinations with this gun and if so, how well it performed with them.

The two choke tubes I have for it are the wingmaster hd that came with it and a kick's .665. The loads I was considering were Winchester supreme 3.5 in 5 shot, Remington nitro turkey 3.5 in 5 shot, and Remington premier copper plated 3.5 in 5 shot.

I've never had any experience with hevi shot because of the price, $6 per shot is a little expensive for me. But I looked on the cabelas website and they had some hevi shot called hevi metal (it was more affordable). I was also wanting to know if anyone has tried hevi-metal to see how it compares to the expensive stuff?

I don't have any experience with the hevi-metal. I used to shoot the old school Remington hevishot and the Winchester xtended range. When prices went up to $5 a shell I went back to lead. I've had good luck with the Winchester HV #5's. No they won't pattern nearly as good as the hevishot but ive never had any problems dropping a gobbler at ethical range. I've got 2 870's. I've got a 21" barrel with a .665 jelly head and a 25" barrel with a .660 sumtoy. I'm still experimenting with the sumtoy ( just got the choke a couple weeks ago) but I have no doubts either will do it's job if I do mine. LikeI said they will not throw huge numbers in the 10 ring at 40 yards with lead, but they will kill a turkey every time at 40. Here's a pic of my pattern with #5 hv lead with the .660 sumtoy.

I'm sure I could get much better numbers if I shot HTL, but at $1.50 a shell vs $5 a shell and a lead #5 at 1300fps puttin up 100, ill stick with lead. I'm sure if you experiment around you can find a good combo for that gun. William lambert, he makes the sumtoy choke and goes by ( sumtoy ) on this forum could tell ya a lot more than me. Another guy that know his stuff is Clark ( allaboutshooting ). Hope this helps.

Before you start spending a bunch of $$$ on chokes, give the HD choke that came with it a try. It did pretty good for me.

Thanks. I plan to compare the two chokes when it warms up and walmart gets some shells in. Its been snowing the past couple days.
