My father is considering having his 870 ported.   He is more than pleased with the guns performance and would just like to limit recoil and muzzle jump.   Should he be concerned about negatively impacting his current pattern by having the barrel ported?

Should not effect patterning, will have some minimal effect on muzzle rise and perceived recoil.  Will make the gun a LOT louder to the shooter and anyone near the shooter.

I'll second that.

You might want to see if he needs a recoil pad upgrade

Good advice. He might want to try a slip-on pad over the existing one and see how that feels.

Agreed. The Limbsaver pads (Sim's) are great.

I'd advise against it, very little effect on recoil and muzzle rise and a big increase in noise.
