Easiest answer is to say I'd be on the same side of the creek that you think he's on....I wouldnt want to count on him trying to cross it, to get to me, if I didnt have to.
In any case, if you know he's got hens with him, your best bet is probably going to be to go hunt him when they leave him during mid-day. I'd also spend some time before the season scouting to see where they prefer to head after they get off the roost.
