New gun

Well I'm wantin to buy a new gun. I don't really need one but y'all know how it is. I got 2 870 12 gauges. I had a stoeger 2000 12 that I loved but it wouldn't cycle shells right so I sold it. I'm a lefty so the benelli m2 lh model is lookin pretty sweet. Also been checking out the new franchi. Now for the 64 thousand dollar question.... 12 gauge or 20?? I've never turkey hunted with a 20 but a lot of people are now, and with great success. If I was gonna spend a 300 on a gun I'd prolly for sure get the 20. But been as this gun ain't exactly cheap I don't wanna get the 20 n think man I wish I'd got a 12..

Hey Justin!
With the new chokes and shotshells out there, you can get flat out awsome patterns from those 20's!
I have a good friend who shoots a T/C Pro Hunter 20 ga with a SumToy choke and Fed Heviweight 7's, and he gets fantastic patterns.
If I was starting fresh, I would probably go with the 20. I would check out the 20 ga forum page. There is some great info on there.

20 ga's are effective i shot a tom 2yr's ago at 30 yards with one i think i shot rem. lead 3" no. 5's  i was hunting with a 20 ga. because of some arthritits in my neck and we were walking a lot whatever you decide congrats. and good luck with your new gun

I'm really leanin hard towards the 20. I'd say ifvu can find a good deal on the m2 lh I'll probably go ahead and try to get it. Any south paws out there know that a good deal on a lefthanded gun is like finding a needle in a haystack. Now one more question. My fiancée has a 870 12 gauge. I told her we should get er a 20 gauge, but she insist that " she likes her gun". The stock is just a little long for her, but she made two one shot kills with it last year. If she's gonna keep that gun I'd Atleast like to shorten the stock some, I don't wanna cut it off cuz I may need to use the gun at some point. Is there an adjustable stock that has a way to raise the comb height for use with optics?

I was just the opposite, I had a 870 SM and then set up a 20 for my daughter and then thought...why didn't i just get a 20.  So I sold my 12 and bought a 20.  I handload my own shells now and my 20 outshoots my 12 anyday and twice on saturday.  To answer your question about raising the comb for optics.  Knoxx makes an adjustable, recoil reducing, stock for the 870 12 ga and and you can add the knoxx powerpak that allows you to have a cheek riser.  It would be great for her.  Here is a pic.

You may want to take a look at the ATI Akita adjustable stocks. You can adjust the LOP and the comb height. They look like traditional hunting stocks as well. You can find them at http://www.atigunstocks.com

Doris and I use them on several hunting and competition guns. They work exceptionally well and have great recoil pads.

Well the new benilli might have to wait. Just sat down and done some figurin. I'm gonna be out $820 on permits and licenses for me and the ol lady this spring. $575 if she decides not to hunt tennessee... Wow!!

DITTO.  My 20ga with reloads outshoots any factory 12ga load I ever tested.  12ga reloads are a different story, but how dead is dead?   

I can tell you my 20ga is a dream come true to carry in the turkey woods all day.
