I go out to the woods to find quiet, not to check e-mails, facebook, and tweet my every move like anyone else is interested.

I am out there to enjoy a break from the every day business, and the less I have to carry the better I feel.

I love how they try to make you believe that if you don't buy what ever their trying to sell....you can't kill a turkey, deer or anything else unless you buy this. Just look at everything from decoys to camo what their trying to make you believe.

When you start turkey hunting, you add things to your vest each year.  After several years, you start swaping out things in your vest each year.  After many years, you start taking things out of your vest each year.

I never got that have to carry everything mentality.
I take my gobblerlounger because the ability for me to sit until noon is greatly enhanced by it. Same goes for my thermacell. I never care to hunt without that! I carry 2 pot calls, and one box call. I take and run the calls I am most proficient in. I carry a mouthcall. I am not very good on it, but I keep bringing it, because it is one more tool, and I don't sound any worse on it than some hens, lol!
My point is, I don't want to get all bogged down in the technology. I bring my cell phone in case of emergencies.
Hunting is more about the experience than the harvest. To me, there is and never will be, a sound like a gobbler sounding off at first light. It stirs my very soul.

I carry a slate, glass, one mouth call and one striker that runs both calls well and 3 shells. Other than that and food and water I don't see how you need anything else. Oh and a camera for pics. Like ky said, these hills will break you. I really think the people who buy this stuff is newbies that don't really know any better

Before I was injured my turkey huntin' gear consisted of mix & match camo and a facemask
I wore a jacket with a large inside pocket in which I carried a small piece of foam rubber to set on.
Shotgun was a Rem 1100 that shot 2 3/4 inch shells.
Always carried a plastic bread bag in case I found some mushrooms plus some "strikin' paper" for emergencies!
No turkey calls, used my natural voice.

I'm not one that likes to lug around a bunch of stuff neither. I've been turkey hunting 20 years and just started wearing a vest abt 5 years ago. If I'm huntin private ground sometimes I leave the vest behind still. I got a lanyard that holds 4 diaphragms, a slate call rigged up on a lanyard, grab a bottle of water n some toilet paper n go.. Main reason I wear a vests now is its so nice to have a cushion n a dry behind. My grandad always told me toilet paper is the most important thing to take..

Your granddad was a very smart man then lol. Tip of the day: poplar and laurel leaves will work the best in a pinch lol

I carry quite a few things, including a chair and pack with extra clothes.  Where I am hunting you could start out with temps in the 30's in the early AM and temps in the 70's by late afternoon.  I also plan on staying out all day and need food and water.
Comfort means a lot to me, the more comfortable I am the longer I can sit and wait out a Tom.
I have used most of what I take out with me. My wife will not let me go out alone without the cell phone 61 years old and it is a good idea.
