Federal heavyweight & BPS

I found some 12 ga., 3", #6 Federal Heavyweight shot at a small town near here. I want to see how they pattern in my BPS Stalker (26" barrel, Invector Plus), but since i only have 5 shells, i want to start with the choke most likely to pattern well with this combination. I understand that these shells don't tend to pattern well with ported chokes. Therefore, my non-ported choices are flush IC, flush Mod, flush Full, Undertaker (non-ported).

From those of you experienced with Federal Heavyweight shot,

1 - what would be your recommendations from those chokes that i already own listed above, and

2 - what would be your choices from ANY choke if you know of one thats not listed above, but that works great with this shot (especially invector plus choke)?

I would start with the Undertaker, just to see.

Of the chokes that you currently have, I'd recommend the Undertaker as well. The best that I've found with those shells however is the Wright's limited production turkey choke. It is non-ported, with a crowned muzzle, 1.3" of parallel section and made from ETD 150 PH steel.

One thing that we found to be most helpful when firing those shells, especially the #6 shot ones, is to start with a very clean bore. I recommend that you "deep clean" the bore prior to shooting any of those shells and then do not clean it between any shots, up to 7 or 8.

Thanks guys. I am planning on patterning with numerous chokes and loads in January, so I'll take your suggestions into account with the Federal shells.

Trulock and PureGold chokes have specific use chokes for that load,  look in the pattern picture section you may find some people have done the homework for you

I have tested the #7 fed HW only in 10ga and can report to you that there is no gobbler scull thick enough to stop that pellet

Put around a 675 to 680 and let it smoke.

What choke are you using in your 10?  I am assuming the non-ported chokes work best with the flight control wad?

Well, i tried the undertaker .670 and results were less than stellar. About 50 pellets in 10 inches @ 40yds using BPS 26 in "field barrel. This was the third shot in the gun that started with a clean barrel. Disappointing cause Jellyhead .670 shot right before the undertaker (2nd shot of the day) got 145 in the 10!

What choke are you using in your 10?  I am assuming the non-ported chokes work best with the flight control wad?

there is a Kicks in my sp10. Last time I shot it , it was on a windy day and it broke 200 no problem

I use that choke just for that particular 10 load and that's it

i would highly recommend a trulock made for the fed hw 7's.the one i have is a 650 constriction.
