I am new to call making and I am grateful for all the information that the members of this forum have provided for me. I have been a woodturner for some time but never made turkey calls. A friend, who has been hunting turkeys for over thirty years, ask me to make him some pot calls last spring. I made him a couple and then his friends also wanted calls. Some of the first ones were good and some not so good. I made 20 calls all with different inside dimensions. All were slate over glass. My friend and his buddies tried all the calls and I now think I have a good baseline for what it takes to produce a good sound. Here is a couple of calls I am donating to the local NWTF chapter auction. Comments are always welcome. Positive or constructive. Call is cherry with a purple heart stricker.

From 15 years ex. forget about slate for the sound if dropped it will come lose the glue will hold but the slate will break, you can!t tell a difference in the sound any way.

Thanks for the comments Gary. Here is a picture of the other side of the call. Not a very good picture but the sides are tapered so that the top of the the call is smaller diameter than the bottom. I understand your comment about the sharp edge and that is something I will keep in mind as I venture on with this endeavor. There are so many things that go into making a good call and I know very little.
Thanks again
Curt

According to my turkey hunting friends it sounds good. Before I donate a call I have my friend who is a long time hunter tell if they sound good or not. Nice to get a second opinion before you put a call out into the public.
Thanks captin_hook

Keep at it Curt, you will find the sound your after sooner or later, but that takes a lot of call building, until you find just that right combo for your pots that your looking for.
As far as what combos, that is depends on how your pots are turned? What works for one guy doesn't work for every other builder.
I use all wood, and a lot of different woods for soundboards in my calls, because they work the best in my pots, it's gives me the option of fine tuning a call to the sound a customer is looking for in their call. Your strikers are your tuning forks in a pot call, different woods bring out different sounds in the call.
