Hi all,

My name is Land Cruiser and I am an addict:( A turkey hunting addict that is. When I first started hunting I didn't want to hunt turkey's thinking that they were not worthy of my time. Ignorance is bliss and when I first started hunting turkeys I got hooked bad. It's been 5 years and 10 seasons. It took me 3 seasons to get my first bird and 4 seasons to get my first tom. The more I do it, the more I want to do it. There is just no way out of this habit.

Thank God! :)

I am here to learn new techniques, make friends, share what little I know and otherwise kill time waiting for that opening day to come around.

Welcome to the forum.  I'm from the Davis area and just joined myself.  What part of NorCal are you from?  Check out my NorCal hunts on youtube under "Pellet Gun Turkey Hunting Television."  Good luck this fall.

Thanks! I am from the Bay Area. Pellet gun sounds like a neat idea, especially in the fall. What's your effective range?

AirGun Man

It's actually tougher to bag a big mature gobbler in the fall than in the spring as they tend not to strut as much if at all and stay in their own gobbler only flock most of the time.  Jakes and hens are real easy though as they get into giant flocks of 100 or more and if they come by your blind they all come by.  My effective range with no wind is around 40 yards but I prefer 10-20 and love 5 as it provides the ultimate turkey rush.  Check out my last fall hunt on youtube under "Pellet Gun Turkey Hunting Television Episode 4." It is some of the wildest fall footage you ever want to see.  I had gobblers strutting at 30 yards in the dead calm wind and I should have known it was an awesome opportunity because you hardly see that in the fall and I am dead on at 30 yards with the crosshairs of the scope.  I waited thinking I would get a better shot the next day or the day after that but it never happened and I missed several times on some other hunts but did not bag anything last fall.   Get a pellet gun and we'll double up this fall.  When you shoot one with a pellet gun all the other ones usually run in and flog them for a while offering a good double opportunity.  Gotta be willing to be a youtube star though.
