? about turning granite and quartz

Is it possible to turn granite and quartz on a lathe to make calls out of? I have a line on a bunch of free material, but I will only pick it up if I feel it can be worked, probably not with hss tools, maybe carbide? Any help and input would be greatly appreciated.

I've witnessed granite countertop fabrication and it includes high horsepower, diamond cutting tools, and LOTS of water! I don't think it would be remotely possible with hand tools. Quartz I have no first hand knowledge of, but I imagine it would be close to granite in what would be required to work it.
