Quote from: RAJ on June 30, 2012, 12:46:06 PMI am most certain that this is pertaining to the 12 gauge only for the 40 yard shot. Using # 6 lead in the 20 gauge a few years ago with H-13 , a 120 in the 10 was pretty awesome, with high 80s - 90s accepted. There have been umpteen choke designs since then and they have for the most part all been designed around the HTL shot versions and rightly so as the HTL in a 20 makes for an incredibly versatile shotgun with 30 -35 lbs recoil vs. 67lbs on the 3.5 " "canons" especially with 1 1/4-1 1/2 oz. shot loads. However, for those who are hunting thick woods, using decoys set up 20 yards away and such the 20 gauge lead load does a very ample job of taking birds home from 20-30 yards and even 35 yards is a pretty sure thing for some. If you haven't tried 30 yard patterns for lead in the 20 gauge you may be very surprised at the pattern and number of shot in the 10 -15" ring. A lot of the slightly more open chokes can give impressive coverage and really help the confidence of a young or inexperienced hunter.
