Rookie Bow Hunter.  Would it be a good idea to put out a Tom decoy "only", when your trying to call an old Tom out?  I was in NY this weekend and heard a lot of toms out there but could not get them in site.  Are they call shy or do they have their own hens around that they choose to ignore my calls?

Toms are pretty henned up right now in my part of  western NY
A mature strutter will likely scare off jakes, I've never been a fan of them ptrefer a jake decoy half strutter over the full strutt mature bird

I use to guide in CNY, try hunting after 9 when the hens are going off to nest.. this should pay off.....

western NY, Sullivan county?  I'm hunting in Cochecton NY.  Its all making sense.  Going back to my hunt I do remember hearing some hens around.  I'll have to try the jake.
If the hens are nesting after 9 do I get more aggressive with my hen calls to get the tom's out? Thanks for the input.

Monroe county...killed a few birds in Cohocton. I wouldn't call any more aggresively than normal,it's just that latter in the morning the Toms will be freed up and trolling for a new willing lady

So my buddies, father came up to the house that following Monday and had to shoo away all the hens in the driveway.  There is a lot of stuff in these woods.  Hasn't been hunted in three years.  approximate 1000 acres.

Pm me if you have any interest.

The offer sounds great but ive been on the go since CT opening day in April.  During the week is tough.  Gotta do some wife and kid time, already i"m pushing my limits.  Thanks.
