Refinishing my box call, should I put some sort of sealer or lacquer on it?

So I'm refinishing my box call, lightly sanding and cleaning it up. I've noticed that there is no sealer or lacquer on any of the wood anymore, what should I put on to protect the wood from dirt, rain (water spots)oil etc.  I just don't know what to use that won't effect the sound of the box call. Please let me know to do or what to use.  Thanks a lot!

A light coat of TRUoil made by birchwood casey might work to give it a protective coating.

 Who made the call? Putting any type oil on it could totally kill the sound.

That's just it, I don't know who made the call. I'd call the company and ask if I knew who made it. It's a great call, just a little beat up.  At a lost on what to do, like you said I'm worried I'll screw up the sound it puts out  by putting something on it that'll make the wood swell or deaden the sound.

I would probaby use lacquer or wouldnt put nothing on it just to be on the safe side

 I spray all the calls I make with DEFT satin finish, spray can, Lowe's has it. Spray a few lite coats on it, hour or so between coats.

I would not do anything to it.... if it's raining, put it (use the call) in a bread wrapper...   any adding to it (with a sealant) could change the sound of the call (muffle) the sound. This would possible deaden the vibration of the wood (this is what makes the call sound).

I use a hand rubbed satin poly and notice no or very little difference in pre finish and post finish sound.
