Any call makers not put finish on a striker ,,,Always seems that when i take a striker off the lathe runs a call good and put finish on it,, later on seems to run different ,,Any thoughts on this ,,,or could be the stress the wood goes thur when turning
Not taking orders for calls at this time ,,,but my have some on hand  ,,,I Dont sell strikers

I put a CA finish on all of my strikers before they ever come off the lathe so honestly I wouldn't know the difference. I would imagine depending on the type of finish and how thick it is it sure could affect how the striker runs.

Finish does make a big difference in strikers. It can kill some woods. I run my strikers before finish and after. I have had to sand a few back down, adjust, and refinish to get a good sound.

On my own personal striker all I put on them is cannula wax. Yeah they turn a little whitish after a month of use but all you need to do is re wax them and polish. The wax won't effect the sound one bit. It seals it but doesn't soak into the wood which is what changes the sound of them. When I make strikers for someone I put a coat of wax in first, then put a coat of finish on  over it to seal the wax and keep it from changing color, sand it smooth and another coat of wax and buff it to give it a little shine.

I also put a CA finish on the striker before removing from lathe
