I have an old 870 that originally had a 28" barrell on it that was gave to me as a Christmas present by my father around 22 years ago.  I killed my first turkey with this gun and have now purchased a 21" barrell and am wanting to use it once again to take a longbeard.  Yesterday I put the TG SSX I recently purchased in it and tried a Hevi 3" 2 oz. #6 through it.  With a deep cleaned bore I got 206/10" at 40 yds. and was wondering if those were good numbers or could better be achieved with the Hevi #6s with a different choke.  I also shot a 3" Mag Blend and got 159/10".  I am really wanting to use the Hevi #6s and was wanting to get some opinions.

With 200+ in the 10/40 I would roll with it! I don't think I have seen anyone post over 230+ with even 3.5-2.25-6 H13's.

I would say you have a killer rig!

Those are very good numbers. Have a great season and please let us know about your success in the turkey woods.

Thanks,

I have one box left of old H13 2.25 oz 6's that will do 230-240 consistently at 40 yards. The new stuff I just bought is shooting around 120. I'm bummed out big time. I'd kill to be getting even 200 again with the 6's. I might try a box of the 3 inch 6's and see what they do for me.

How about *260*  :smiley-char092:

I deep cleaned the bore about six to eight shots before this pattern.  Do you guys think the barrel needs deep cleaning again or should it be fine?

nyhunter

I'd deep clean it again if it were me BUT I'm kind of a clean barrel freak, I'm sure it will still kill a bird stone dead at 40 yds.  200 out of a 3" #6 great. My son's 870 3" with the same load will do 170's.
