How many go this route for big, dense 30-35 Yard Lead patterns?

R AJ

I have done that before but it is not my favorite all around shot as they lose velocity quickly going through feathers and into bone.

I would never use 7.5 lead on a turkey lol. I used to use #8s for the egg shoots down at the gun club.

I've used the Federal 3-2-7.5's for years, and they've had no problem bustin' heads out to 40 yards...and even a hair beyond that.  ;)

BigPeck215

i was thinking about loading up some 10gauge 7.5's or turkey hunting to pattern and play around with

around 350 7.5's per oz and i got a recipe for a 3oz load, while one pellet might not be enough for a clean kill i dont think a turkey can escape 1050 screaming 7.5's

killing at 30yds would be a piece of cake

back in the "day" this was my go to hunting load
750 pellets through my .679 Tru glow GS or my .676 Stardot at 30-35 yds,
it was lights out
it's not the harvest,it's the chase

High Brass 2.75"
1.25 Ounces in 12 Gauge = 430 Pellets
1 Ounce in 20 Gauge = 344 Pellets
#7.5's are tight-choke friendly

Just imagine how 1.75 to 2 Ounces would pattern!!!

This is the old Federal 3-2-#7.5 load with over 700 shot (I think); I know it is over 600 pellets .It has a great pattern but loses energy and penetration rather quickly. It is as fine a 30 yard and under load as you will ever need. We have woods here where you may not see him until it is under 40 yards and sometimes under 30 so it is great for that. A high brass 7.5 magnum load will work as well.

I've always wanted to try a 3 inch 7.5  i've seen the shell years ago but i've never seen any on sale since then  does anyone know where you can purchase some or is this just a reload now  Thanks

I think Fiocchi is the only game in town for a commercial 3" #7.5 Lead 12 Gauge load.  However, I've never seen them in stores.

Fiocchi also offers a 2.75" 1 3/8 Ounce #7.5 Lead 12 Gauge load.
The other companies stop at a 1.25 Ounce 2.75" offering.

It looks like Fiocchi may not be offering the 3-1.75-7.5 golden pheasant loads anymore.  The 2011 catalog only shows 4, 5, and 6's.  However...they appear to offer two versions of the 2.75-1.375-7.5's.  One advertised at 1250fps, and the other at a scorching 1485fps.

For 20 gauge shooters, they offer a 3-1.25-7.5 round, also.

We had a game warden in the 60's in Andalusia.Al and 7.5s was his load.Of course he could see his reflection in the turkeys eye before he shot because he used mouth calls made from lead washers , introduced by the Radcliff's , of which one of the family members  lived in Andalusia and went to hunt The Bull Pen Hunting Club.
We didn't have these special chokes then and the smart thing to do was to use the smallest possible shot to make up for a more open choke.
Buy me a turkey and put him at 25 yards and I'll use high brass 9's and put him to sleep every time.

Devastator

me and a buddy both used the fed. 3-2-7/12 and never had any trouble killing birds.in fact we each had a couple of kills between 40-45.

The OLE FAVORITE likes the 7.5 PB handloads at 1350fps and anything smaller!! :icon_thumright:
