HBO Series Deadwood

Anyone here watch that series? I am slowly catching up and I gotta say it's been awesome so far.

I'm on season 3 episode 29.

Great show, one of my favorites.  Its sad that they only did 3 seasons because the show creator wanted to make a show called John from Cincinnati which flopped by the 3rd or 4th episode.  Enjoy it, Al Swearengen is one of the greatest characters TV has ever seen.

The abject overuse of profanity got a little old.  Just overkill.

There are funny montage videos on youtube of every time a certain swear word is used.  Al's is the compound "c" word.

It made me wonder what swear words were common in that period and how often they used them.  Were the words from the Deadwood script even in circulation back then?  My perception is that people were generally more polite and circumspect about swearing openly in public than now, particularly in front of women and that women rarely swore in public.

I love Deadwood!!!!     My wife and I were in Lowes in Murray Ky. when she said I think I just saw Dan off Deadwood!  I said yea right--so I made my way down his aisle and was  amost afraid to ask him  due to him looking like a biker dude and said has any one told you , you look like Dan off Deadwood and he said yea I hear that alot ................because I am him!  So I had to ask him about the fight with the Captain!   He was very nice and said the reason he was in Murray was because thats where  he graduated high school  and his mom and dad still live there. He wasn't all that big to be Big Al's muscle!! Small world!

, first time I turned on the show I almost spat out my drink on the TV , they were cussin so hard a sailor would blush

, these guys brought fowl mouthed to a whole new level - there were using a combination of cuss words together to form some kind of "cuss word salad" , I didnt even know they invented some of those words back then

I loved that show. I was an Ironworker for 37 years, and these guys used cuss words that I had never heard before!! It actually made me squimish, and I can cuss with the best of them..Great series, just a little vulgar, at times.. Everyone needs a "Woo, the Chinaman" in their neighborhood..A great way to get rid of the riff-raff..Mike

Its the way they string the cuss words together in a sentence that makes it vulgar. Al being the leader. lol

They tried to slip in some Shakespeare sophistication in Al's character.  you can read about the use of iambic pentameter.
