BIG DOG DOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!

Last night was my first time out this season. after countless stands over the last few years I had yet to even see eyes in the dark. there have been time where I thought about quiting and been really close to giving up. After a night like last night it has all been worth it.

my hunting partner had stopped up to my work with new camo and asked when we were going. I told him I had to work till 1:30am and wouldn't be able to go and the fact that we never see anything didn't have me excited about going out in the cold. about 8:30 my night turned around. my late night customer canceled and I would out by 10:30pm. I called my partner, he said good news bad news. he could go, but didn't have a gun. his gun was at his girlfriends house and he could go this late to get it. I said no problem you can use my 12 gauge. I picked him up and we raced to my house to gear up. my wife was surprised that I was home early and not surprised that I was heading out to sit in the cold woods. I kissed my baby girl good night and headed out.

we drove to some state land that is heavily hunted but we thought was the best of our options.

on the way there we joked about all the empty stands and stupid things that we have seen and done over the last few years while attempting to hunt.

we loaded up and made our way down a old farm road that has over grown fields to the right and a creek to the left. as we walked we herd coyotes howling and we both agreed this could be a great night. we set up about 50 yards from the road in the corner of the field and road. we hoped anything approaching would do so right down the road. for once the coyote seemed to know the plan and didn't care.

I started with baby cotton tail on the fox pro spit fire. after about 5 min of calls and 10 min of silence I figured lets do some howling so I switched over to some female invitation howl. couldn't tell you if that was the right thing to do or not but Went with it any ways. we sat quite for awhile and as I was ready to get up I told my partner one more thing is going to die. so I switched to Lucy Bird.

after just a few seconds my light catches eyes in the field running right to left and fast about 70 yards out. I'm following the eyes and whispering hey you see that. hoping my partner is on it. he said yes. I told him i think its a fox. here is NY fox season closed on the 15th and we would not be able to shoot one. the eyes stopped and seem to look right at us. I thought we were busted so I turned the call off (which was at my feet) I lip squeaked once and he kept moving left. I lost him in the light due to the terrain. and I figured he was gone. after what felt like hours but was really seconds I caught his eyes on the old road. He was close! the second I saw him I Said SHOOT ! the moment my light hit him I knew he was now fox. the 1187 lit up the night and #4 buck dropped him where he stood. I felt like I jumped to my feet and ran out about 10 yards next to me was my partner and we both looked at each other and said "maybe there are more" but we had never looked and it was way to late. 41 steps from where we laid our first coyote.

we ran over to collect our prize. 37.6 LBS!

sorry the story was so long! and yes that is walmart, had to stop and buy a scale.

Nice!! Congrats on taking a nice dog out of circulation.. :you_rock:
May I assume you're not here to inquire about the alcohol or the tobacco?
If attacked by a mob of clowns, go for the juggler.

K9Doc

Be sure to skull mount that rascal.  They look cool.  Remove skin, all muscles you can, boil until the rest removes easily.  Spray off the rest of the connective tissue and spray out the brains(this is messy) and then soak in some peroxide over night.  Rinse off well and let her dry a few days.
Be the type of person your dog thinks you are.

Ol'Mossy

Nice going, like they said Killm all

I was out coyoye hunting last Friday night and got into a pack of them but they wouldn't come out of the woods

It was the same scenario as you guys almost the same calls I used too  :you_rock:
