trumpet call question

My son can make a sound very close to a yelp on a plastic straw from a juice box. I am thinking of buying inexpensive trumpet type call to see if he can run it. I've never used one, and my knowledge of them is only what I've read. What would y'all recommend? Or should I spend the money and buy a custom call. I know if he runs the cheap one well,  I'll have to nice one for us.

I agree with Dave, grab one of NC's cane callers, then if he improves and desires to upgrade that is when I would get a hold of some trumpet makers...pappy
