i know a couple guys on here make them, but they seem pretty straight forward, what are the design differences if any and how to they affect the call and its use, i have seen baffled and unbaffled, looking for a reasonably priced hunting call.

also what are the basic's to learning how to use the call, lip positon, mouth movements, etc, etc.

I got 2 this winter.  I can get a yelp and cuts.  It does sound different from a diaphram call but sometimes old tom needs to hear something diffferent.  Get one and try it out.

gobbler336...........using a tube call offers you so much diversity in your calling practices, those I make seem to have been successful in "newbies" hands as well as those "old timers",  the baffled tube is simply a tube call that has a restriction wall inside the tube with a hole, (sometimes 5/16" or 3/8"up to a 1/2") in a wall less then and 1/8" thick, to allow the user to operate the call with less air, resulting in a quieter caller the non-baffled tube is a straight open call, which operates with more air running through the reed, and results in a louder caller. Using a tube, is simple, you place your call with the lip stop, (the piece of half moon shaped wood on the front), in a down position, rest your lower lip there and place your upper lip resting over top of the reed like you were about to drink a pop out of a bottle. Then start practicing, using ta-chick ta-chick or hut-hut-hut and before long you'll be making turkey sounds, but it takes practice, like any other call.

Houndstooth Game Calls

#4
Hey gobbler here's a clip of one baffled that's all I use hunting its plenty of loud enough for striking birds at distance and soft enough to call him to the gun I don't leave home without it here's a little clip so when ya get one gives you a idea of how to tune one that will explain alot for ya! Good luck!

It's not quite as easy as Lyle makes it look, but you can definitely learn it with some practice. You da man, Lyle!

I will add a comment about tube design. The larger diameter tubes are raspier for me. The longer latex will vibrate slower for that awesome raspy break on your yelps. The smaller diameter tubes tend to be a finer and cleaner sound. However, with practice and tuning you can get both type sounds from either. Longer tubes tend to be deeper toned and shorter tubes higher pitched. Pappy makes a cool tube with three interchangeable barrels of different lengths. I have a corian tube from TRKYHTR that is flat out awesome! I am going to do some business with Lyle in the near future.

Here is me running the TRKYHTR tube in the woods. I have not hunted with a tube yet and only started running them a few months back.

BTW, the corian tube is baffled and the laminated tube is not baffled.

As a tube call user I can tell you it's not as easy as these guys make it look.
