These four shells represent my 2011 turkey season. The reason two are taped togethers is because I kinda missed on the first shot !

That is a neat idea.  I missed my first bird last year, but my second shot was just to see exactly how fast he could run.  My mentor told me that we you kill a turkey you owe them a tribute, so you pull some breast feathers, put them in the shell and then place the shell in the spot you shot from.  I usually hang it on a branch.

I started out the 2011 season with a miss as well. Tried a 20 yard left handed shot and whiffed then really scared him when I switched hands got to my knees and missed again. The next bird I spooked coming up a ridge right to me. Thought he was further away, but no, he was forty yards out about to crest. I honestly hadn't missed a bird in years with my mossy until last season.

I carry a sharpie in my back while deer hunting with my son. Everyone he kills out of a box we write the date, size, and time on the wall. I like the idea of leaving the case where the bird was shot. Think I'll start that this spring.

Some good ideas. I always pick up my empties. Mainly because I hunt public and dont want to leave any sign around that a bird was killed there. I do use a black sharpie and make a mark my guns for the birds killed with it.

I always pick up my empty shells and I'll even go as far as picking up any feathers that come out while they are flopping.  I leave no trace that a turkey was killed on that ridge.  I am very secretive about my hunting spots.  I figure why should someone else benefit after I've spent the pre-season listening and trying to pattern birds and they haven't put their time in.
