Got a new rangefinder today. Went to Charlottesville to Dicks Sporting Goods and picked up a Redfield 550. 550 being the maximum range. Tried it out today, works beautifully. Got it mostly for bow hunting, but I will also use it for sighting in my guns. For $189, its very ergonomic, super light only weighing 5 oz and 3.7 inches long! I was surprised. I would definitely recommend it. You have a choice between black and Realtree camo. Also works on moving targets.

make it a training tool and not a crutch.  Pick landmarks and guess the distance before hand then use the range finder to verify.

Cool deal.  You will get a lot of use out of that.  I know I get a lot of use out of mine.

Crutch

I got a Leupold last year because I figured out I wasn't judging distances futher than 150 yds and out to 400. It came in very handy for practicing distances. I feel like it paid for itself on one hunt in the mountians of new mexico. Mine is a 6X which helps out to when not packing binos.  You will really improve on distances after you practice just a little.

It will come in handy.  I have a Leupold and like it as well.  Redfield is owned by Leupold so it should be a quality product and they are made in the USA

I'm watching the mailbox for my Nikon Archer's Choice rangefinder.  Did some bartering for some calls with a store in Baton Rouge.  ;)  This is one piece of equipment I have wanted for years, but have never made myself fork over the $$$.  I looked at the Redfield on Optics Planet and was definitely considering it.

I sold rangefinders for a while. You will be more than happy with a Nikon. Unless your buying a Leica your next best option is the Nikon's.

Well, i really dont care what brand it is as long as it does the job i want it to, that is to find distances. I dont need fancy gadgets.

FttFttVroom!

I've yet to use a rangefinder in turkey hunting.  They come in handy for deer hunting tho.
